Aangen's Story

Aangen: noun. (sanskrit) Front yard of a home where community members gather to give each other comfort, support, and nurturing.

Aangen's foundation was started four generations ago by a humble woman named Mataji, which means dear mother. Every Wednesday she opened her home to people from all walks to life to come meditate and have some of her healing food and teas. Those who needed some medical attention were given a wide range of herbs and spices from her medicine pouch. She passed these traditions to her daughter, granddaughter and finally her great granddaughter, Executive Director Gurbeen Bhasin who currently runs Aangen.

Aangen's Social Enterprise Model

Working Local

Aangen purchases ethically sourced farm products within a 100 km radius and supplies them to local businesses.

Vote With Your Dollar

All proceeds from our services go directly to fund our operating costs.

Global Impact

With this model, Aangen ensures that 100% of donations go directly to the programs you care about, which impacts the world locally and globally.

Independence

In order to help our community members facilitate independence, we must facilitate our own. As such, we do not count on government or external funding, we raise our own funds. This is our definition of independence. We are committed to providing educational workshops for everyone that are easily affordable and promote self-reliance whilst causing community.

Paying It Forward

We seek to empower those who come through our doors by encouraging them to receive in one hand and give with the other. We are all one step away from either needing help or providing help and as such the cycle continues and reinforces the strength and fortitude of community. Namaste.

One Love

We embody the concept of one love and one world. We believe in the interconnectedness of all beings, and all things and it is our vocation to serve the world with love and compassion.
